Heath Harris is the First Assistant at the District Attorney’s (DA) Office, where he has worked since returning to the office in 2007. Prior to being appointed First Assistant, he served as Administrative Chief of Division A (Felony), Administrative Chief of the Intake/Grand Jury Division and Chief of the Gang Unit. Additionally, in 2008 he was the recipient of the DA’s Above & Beyond Award.
The Lubbock, Texas, native has 16 years of experience practicing criminal law and worked in private practice from 2000 to 2006. During his previous four-year stint as a Dallas County prosecutor, he prosecuted numerous cases in the misdemeanor and felony trial divisions under two prior administrations between 1996 and 2000. Mr. Harris was assigned to the Public Integrity Unit and Organized Crime Division before he left the office and went into private practice.
He is a graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree, and Lubbock-based Texas Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. A firm believer in giving back to the community, he speaks regularly to local youth groups and serves as a YMCA youth basketball and baseball coach.
