DA’s Office receives check to fund first year of Animal Cruelty Unit
Today, Safer Dallas Better Dallas, a local non-profit that supports law enforcement initiatives presented the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office with a much anticipated check in the amount of nearly $200,000 in order to fund the first year of the newly created Animal Cruelty Unit at the DA’s office.
District Attorney Craig Watkins is honored to have the first animal cruelty unit in North Texas to prosecute those who abuse, torture, and kill animals. First Assistant Heath Harris accepted the check on the DA’s behalf – saying criminals who abuse animals go on later to abuse humans, but now we have the resources to investigate and prosecute such cases.
Animal rights advocates, law enforcement officers, along with representatives from the District Attorney’s office and Safer Dallas Better Dallas were in attendance at the Dallas County Commissioner’s Court as the check was presented.
